About Wollongong Turf Quotes
Search for artificial grass in any Illawarra suburb and you will meet a particular kind of website. It has a suburb name in the heading, a stock photograph of a backyard that is not in New South Wales, a five-star rating with no reviews behind it, and forty near-identical pages differing only in the suburb they name. Some of them are not really websites at all: they are pages parked on generic cloud storage, generated in bulk, with no business standing behind them. They exist to capture a phone number and sell it on.
We are a lead-generation site too. That is the honest starting point of this page, and it is why being straight about it matters more here than it would in a market with less of that noise. What follows is what we do differently, stated in a way you can check.
The tells, so you can apply them to us as well
Four things separate a site with a real business behind it from a shell, and all four are checkable in about ninety seconds:
- Named legal entity. This site is operated by Kerbside Websites, ABN 78 654 691 111. A shell will not give you one.
- Claims that could be false. A shell publishes reviews, ratings, years of experience and licence numbers, because none of it costs anything to type. We publish none of those, because we have not earned any of them yet.
- Sources you can open. Every soil percentage, council quotation and water rule on this site names its document. If a competing page states a council rule, ask which document says it. We had to discard one such claim ourselves during research, and it is described below.
- Page-to-page difference. Open two suburb pages on any site and read the opening paragraphs side by side. If swapping the suburb name would make both correct, nobody wrote either of them for you.
The claim we threw away
While researching verge rules for this site, a search engine summary asserted that Wollongong City Council "would not permit" artificial turf on a nature strip. It sounded plausible, it would have made a punchy paragraph, and it is not true. We read the Verge Garden Guidelines Booklet and the Council verge page in full. Neither mentions artificial or synthetic turf anywhere. The summary had reasoned from Council's rule about hard surfaces to a prohibition that Council has never written down.
So this site says what the documents say: Wollongong City Council publishes no position on synthetic turf on the verge, Shellharbour City Council publishes no verge policy at all, and Kiama Municipal Council states that "You need to get approval from Council before you do any work on public roads, footpaths, or land between a road and private property". That is less dramatic than a ban, and it is the truth. Inventing a council rule is the single fastest way to make a site like this worthless, and it is the mistake we are most careful about.
Where the numbers come from
Pricing traces to published Australian supplier and industry rate cards, dated so you can judge how current they are. Soil percentages are computed by geometric intersection of NSW Government soil landscape polygons with NSW Spatial Services suburb boundaries, and the descriptive quotations come from the official unit report PDFs. Water rules come from Sydney Water's own pages and from the NSW Government Gazette notice that made them. Climate figures come from Bureau of Meteorology station summaries, with the station number and the length of the record stated, including where a record has ended. Read the Illawarra cost breakdown and you will see the sourcing style applied end to end.
What happens when you send the form
Four fields: name, phone number, suburb and what the job roughly involves. It goes to one vetted installer covering the Illawarra, who rings to arrange a measure and gives you a firm written price. We are not a marketplace and we do not run an auction: your number does not go to a panel of five companies. Nothing is charged and nothing is committed. Our Privacy Policy sets out what happens to the details you send, and the Terms of Use cover the legal side.
Our link to McKays Grass Seeds
Some articles reference McKays Grass Seeds, an Australian lawn care business we share ownership interests with. Those mentions are editorial rather than paid, and we disclose the relationship wherever it appears. Everything else we publish sits behind the Wollongong turf quotes home page.
Contact
Wollongong Turf Quotes is operated by Kerbside Websites (ABN 78 654 691 111). The quote form is the way to reach us, whether you want a price or want to correct something we have published. If you can show us a document that contradicts a claim on this site, we would rather fix it than defend it.
Fair questions about a site like this
Are you an installer?
No. We publish research and pricing, and we pass each enquiry to one vetted installer covering the Illawarra. We own no trucks, hold no stock and employ no crews. Anyone who tells you a site is 'the local turf experts' should be able to name the crew. We cannot, so we do not claim it.
Why are there no reviews or photos of finished jobs on this site?
Because we have not referred a job yet. The site went up before the installer partnership was finalised, so there are no customers to quote, no jobs to photograph and no rating to publish. Every one of those things would be trivial to fabricate and impossible for you to check, which is precisely why their absence here is deliberate rather than an oversight.
What does it cost me to enquire?
Nothing, and there is no obligation. If the quote comes back higher than you expected, walking away is a normal outcome and you will not be pursued for it.
How do you make money?
The installer who receives your enquiry pays for the arrangement, not you. That is the standard model for a site like this and it is worth stating out loud, because it explains our incentive: we benefit when the enquiry is a good match and the installer wants more of them, which is an argument for accurate pricing rather than optimistic pricing.
Where do the soil and water facts come from?
NSW Government soil landscape mapping and the official unit report PDFs served through eSPADE, Sydney Water's own published Water Wise Guidelines and the NSW Government Gazette notice behind them, the three councils' own verge and works documents, and Bureau of Meteorology station summaries. Where a fact could not be verified from a primary source, we leave it out and say so.
Do you cover Shellharbour and Kiama, or just Wollongong?
All three local government areas: Wollongong City, Shellharbour City and Kiama Municipal. They share one water utility, Sydney Water, but they are separate councils with separate positions on work in the road reserve, and we treat them separately rather than writing 'Wollongong' and hoping.
